About the Role
OEC is undergoing a multi-year cloud transformation, modernizing infrastructure and migrating hundreds of services to AWS. As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a key role in shaping OEC’s future database platform by leading the evolution from legacy systems to scalable, secure, cloud-native solutions. This senior, hands-on technical role will serve as a database engineering leader, driving AWS database strategy, migration efforts, architecture decisions, and operational excellence.
You will partner with application engineering, Dev Ops, security, and cloud infrastructure teams to build a resilient AWS database ecosystem.
- Lead database migrations to AWS managed services, including Amazon RDS for SQL Server and Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Design and implement cloud-native database architectures focused on scalability, availability, security, and performance.
- Develop infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform and integrate database provisioning into CI/CD pipelines.
- Execute migrations using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
- Establish database monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and operational standards using AWS-native tools.
- Drive incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner across engineering teams to define database strategy and modernization roadmaps.
- Mentor and elevate DBA team members through coaching and knowledge sharing.
- 10+ years of database administration experience, including 3+ years managing AWS cloud database environments.
- Deep expertise with Amazon RDS for SQL Server, Aurora PostgreSQL, and AWS database services.
- Experience with AWS security, networking, monitoring, and governance practices.
- Strong Terraform experience supporting cloud infrastructure automation.
- Proven experience leading enterprise database migrations and modernization initiatives.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Lead a high-impact AWS transformation that supports critical business platforms.
- Influence enterprise database architecture and long-term strategy.
- Work with modern cloud technologies including AWS, Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS, Terraform, and Datadog.
