Position: Manager of IT Security (Remote)

At Lakeshore, we create innovative learning materials and world-class guest experiences for teachers, parents and children. Since 1954, we’ve grown into a global community—with a thriving e-commerce business, multiple catalogs, over 50 stores, a peerless national sales force, plus international offices that support our preeminent supply chain division. But today we’re working better, smarter and faster than ever—and setting our sights even higher.

We’re building an infrastructure designed for scalability, embracing data-driven decision-making and using technology to improve efficiency and ensure the best tools for the best work. Most importantly, we continue to invest in a diverse team of inquisitive top talent who fuel each other’s passions and curiosity, take risks, try new things and believe that every new day brings opportunities for growth.

Job Description

Lakeshore Learning's products end up in the hands of millions of children, educators, and families — and keeping those interactions safe starts with the security of our systems. As our Manager of IT Security
, you'll lead a team of security engineers and analysts protecting Lakeshore across vulnerability management, incident detection and response, and identity and access management. You'll help shape how we think about security as we grow, partnering across the business to reduce risk and develop a security program that's built to last.

This is a remote role; candidates must be able to work effectively in a distributed environment and are welcome to apply from anywhere in the U.S.

A day on the job looks like this:
  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of security engineers and analysts — setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback and building the individual capabilities that make the whole team stronger
  • Guiding your team through the day-to-day work of vulnerability management, incident detection and response, and identity and access management, keeping quality high and risks in check
  • Driving execution of multi-year security initiatives, helping translate strategy into execution and keeping work moving when priorities or conditions shift
  • Partnering with senior stakeholders/leadership to develop and maintain information security policies, procedures, GRC, procedures and plans that reflect where the organization is and where it's headed
  • Evaluating security technologies and controls — from proof-of-concept testing to vendor partnerships — and leading implementation and continuous improvement efforts that measurably strengthen our security posture
  • Spotting the root causes behind technical and operational problems, not just the surface symptoms, and leading your team to solutions that hold up over time
Qualifications

Got the skills and experience? Here’s what we’re looking for:

Required

  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in information security, with meaningful exposure across multiple domains such as vulnerability management, incident response, endpoint security, or identity and access management
  • 2+ years of experience leading a team of security professionals, including hiring, coaching, performance management and career development
  • Working experience securing both on‑premises and cloud environments, with a solid understanding of cloud networking and operations concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate security risks and recommendations clearly to both technical teams and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Experience contributing to or executing security roadmaps, policies or programs in a growing or maturing organization

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science or a related field.
  • CISSP or equivalent security certification
  • 8+ years of experience in information security
  • 5+ years of people management experience in a security or technology function
What sets you apart:
  • You give feedback early and often — specific, direct and framed around growth — because you know that's how good teams get better
  • When something breaks, you're wired to ask why it broke before you ask how to fix it, and you bring your team along in that thinking
  • You can hold your own in a room with senior leadership and shift perspectives when the security risk is…
