At Duke University, technology plays a critical role in advancing teaching, learning, and innovation. As a Learning Technology Engineer on the Digital Experience and Academic Technology Services (DEATS) team within Duke Office of Information Technology (OIT), you will help shape the digital learning experience for faculty, students, and academic partners across the university.
In this role, you will serve as a key contributor to the success of the Open Academy Platform, a growing learning technology solution that supports academic programs, courses, and innovative educational experiences. You will collaborate with faculty, researchers, developers, and instructional partners to enhance the platform, support users, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is curious, customer-focused, and passionate about leveraging technology to advance teaching and learning. You enjoy solving problems, translating technical concepts for diverse audiences, and partnering with stakeholders to create engaging digital experiences.
Minimum Qualifications EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technology issues and partner with users, stakeholders, and vendors to resolve problems effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while exercising sound judgment and delivering exceptional customer service.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences through various communication channels.
- Understanding of instructional design, pedagogy, and the role technology plays in supporting teaching and learning.
- Experience supporting higher education teaching and learning environments.
- Experience developing project plans, schedules, scope documents, or service-related deliverables.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret user feedback and system performance metrics.
- Experience developing and delivering presentations, workshops, or training sessions.
- Previous experience working within an academic technology or educational technology organization in higher education.
This position follows a hybrid work arrangement, with up to 80% remote work flexibility available. Occasional evening and weekend support may be required to meet business needs.
* This is a part-time, one-year, term-limited position.

As a Learning Technology Engineer, you will:
- Provide functional leadership, technical support, and user engagement for the Open Academy Platform while serving as a key resource for faculty, staff, and students.
- Act as a liaison and backup point of contact with platform developers to support system enhancements, issue resolution, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Consult with faculty and academic partners to identify effective ways to incorporate Open Academy into courses, programs, and innovative learning experiences.
- Analyze user feedback, usage trends, and performance metrics to develop recommendations that improve services and enhance the learning experience.
- Support emerging teaching and learning initiatives by partnering with faculty on experimental and innovative uses of the platform.
- Develop and maintain training materials, online resources, documentation, workshops, webinars, and web content that empower users to successfully leverage Open Academy.
- Maintain expertise in teaching and learning technologies and related OIT services, including virtual machines, Jupyter environments, Git, and other academic technology tools.
