Firewall Engineer (Check Point / Network Security)

We are seeking a Firewall Engineer to design, implement, and support enterprise firewall solutions with a primary focus on Check Point technologies. This role is responsible for building and maintaining firewall policies, managing network traffic flows, and ensuring secure connectivity across on-premises data centers, cloud environments, and colocation (COLO) facilities. Candidates with strong Palo Alto experience will also be considered.

The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in networking and security engineering, including routing, BGP, and related technologies required to support modern firewall infrastructures. Responsibilities include creating and optimizing firewall rules, troubleshooting connectivity issues, analyzing packet captures, tracing application data flows, and partnering with application owners to implement secure and effective network solutions.

Successful candidates will combine hands-on firewall engineering expertise with strong problem-solving and communication skills. Engineers will serve as trusted advisors to business and application teams, supporting cloud migration and network modernization initiatives, while all engineers will contribute to firewall operations, policy management, security improvements, and incident resolution across the enterprise.

Required Qualifications

Experience with Check Point Firewalls (preferred) or Palo Alto Networks

+ Strong understanding of firewall policy design, rule creation, and traffic management

+

Experience with network troubleshooting, packet analysis, and traffic flow tracing

+ Knowledge of routing protocols, including BGP, and core networking concepts

+ Experience supporting hybrid environments spanning data centers, cloud platforms, and COLO facilities

+ Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and customer-facing communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience supporting cloud networking and security architectures

+ Familiarity with firewall migrations and network modernization initiatives

+ Experience consulting with application and infrastructure teams on secure connectivity requirements

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Buffalo, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $46.64 - $77.74/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
