Job Description & How to Apply Below

Fanspeak runs the original NFL mock draft simulator. It's called On The Clock and it's been up since 2009. About 4.9M pageviews a year, and we did 174,308 Search Console clicks in April. Two people run it, me and a developer.

I need someone who can get stories out of our data placed. Someone with actual journalist relationships in sports, data, or general news. Writing the study is the easy half. The pitching and the Rolodex are the job.

  • 1. On The Clock. 1,023,724 completed mock drafts by real users. We built a consensus big board off those picks using a Bradley-Terry rating model, then put the analyst version on its own separate board. So "the crowd vs. the experts" is two live URLs anyone can diff. It refreshes weekly through draft season.
  • 2. Manage the Cap (). A full nine stage NFL offseason sim running on licensed Over The Cap data. Franchise tags, free agency, trades, cuts, the draft. Every pick on all 32 teams books a real slotted four year contract, and the cap math is validated to the dollar against live public sources. We looked at 136 sites in this space and nobody else charges rookie contracts against the cap or shows the multi year dead money cascade in the UI.

Which means we can write things nobody else can copy, like exactly what it costs a team to cut its first round pick.
  • 3. The draft calendar. Combine, franchise tag window, free agency, the draft. Recurring news pegs we can time campaigns to.
Shape:

one paid pilot story plus one pitch round (about $1.5K) in October, then a three month engagement Nov through Jan for whoever lands it.

What we're not buying:

technical audits (shipped and verified July 2026), keyword research, content calendars, link packages, or a retainer.

Jonny Olsen, Fanspeak
