The FIA limits every F1 team to 40 wind tunnel runs and 250 CFD tests a week. No exceptions, no extra runs.
That means every tool, pipeline, and platform your team relies on has to work first time, every time, because there's no room to waste a test slot on a system that lets you down.
As a Platform Engineer within this fast-moving Formula 1 team, you'll build and manage the platforms that make that possible. Your work underpins almost every engineering application in the department, so when you ship something better, the whole team feels it within days, not months.
You'll work across Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines spanning both on-premise and cloud environments, giving software developers and data scientists the infrastructure they need to push performance further.
With direct influence over how the team standardises and evolves its platforms, you'll shape the technology landscape rather than just maintain it.
What you will do
Develop, implement and maintain the Dev Ops and MLOps platforms that support software developers and data scientists across the Technology department. Manage deployment environments spanning Linux, Windows, Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring applications and microservices are deployed efficiently, securely and reliably.
Support both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure as the team's technology platforms continue to evolve. Contribute to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines to enhance automation and software deployment.
Help create consistent and scalable development environments that support both internally developed applications and specialised third-party technologies. Drive improvements that enhance platform scalability, security, reliability and operational performance.
What you will need?
- An academic background in a relevant field (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics) or experience working in the F1/Motorsport industry or an engineering-intensive sector such as Aerospace, Automotive, Aviation, or Defense.
- Proven experience with Kubernetes in a professional environment.
- Strong understanding of microservices architecture and container orchestration, along with experience with Dev Ops, MLOps, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with diverse technical and non-technical groups.
- Permanent – basic salary DOE, championship & race weekend bonuses, flexible onsite hours (10am-3pm), pension (5%), daily lunch allowance, life insurance (4x salary), private healthcare, onsite gym & EV charging.
- 4 days onsite + 1 day remote (commutable from Northamptonshire / Buckinghamshire / Oxfordshire / Bedfordshire)
