Senior Systems Engineer, R&D Labs (Job Code: JC16)
Raleigh, NC, United States Responsibilities:
Responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and availability of Qualys’ global platforms. Monitor system performance, apply patches, and troubleshoot incidents to maintain continuous 24/7 operations and support cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, secure services to customers worldwide. Install, configure, and maintain Qualys’ internal servers, software systems, and enterprise applications supporting global platforms and integrated product development, infrastructure management, and production operations.

Administer virtualization environments (VMware, vCenter, ESXi) including patching, upgrading, and configuring high-availability features such as Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), High Availability (HA), VM migrations (vMotion), and resource allocation. Monitor infrastructure and system performance using automation and monitoring tools to detect anomalies or service interruptions, respond promptly to alerts, and take corrective actions to minimize downtime. Apply software patches, operating system upgrades, and security updates across Linux, Unix, Windows, and VMware environments to maintain compliance, reliability, and protection against vulnerabilities.

Troubleshoot and resolve system-related incidents, providing root cause analysis for service-impacting events and implementing corrective actions to reduce Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), while documenting incident resolution. Collaborate with Development, Database Reliability Engineering, Networking, and Support teams to analyze service outages, optimize integration with databases, and ensure efficient system and application performance across distributed environments. Maintain and report on service quality metrics and recommend improvements for infrastructure reliability and monitoring processes by generating performance dashboards and analytics.

Provide customer-facing technical support when necessary, including resolving issues related to Qualys products, cloud system migrations (AWS, GCP), LDAP configuration, and enterprise application integration.

Work from home permitted 40% of time.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree (or the foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, or related field.
• 5 years of experience in the job offered or related.
• Experience with:
• Kube Virt-based Virtual Machine (VM) orchestration in Cloud-native Kubernetes environments;
• CI/CD pipeline automation using Jenkins/Helm for containerized microservices deployment;
• Prometheus & Grafana implementation for Kubernetes cluster observability & alerting;
• VMware vSphere infrastructure administration; and
• Linux-based enterprise platform administration with Incident Response (IR) & Root Cause Analysis (RCA).Salary, benefits and discretionary bonus.
