Senior Technical Writer - IT / SharePoint
Position Overview
Work on a complex IT project where high-quality business and technical documentation plays an important role in supporting project teams, management, agency staff, vendors, and other stakeholders. This role partners with Project Directors/Managers, Technical Directors/Developers, and Business Analysts/SMEs to create clear, structured, and visually effective project artifacts and supporting documentation.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, comfortable managing multiple deliverables with varying deadlines, and able to quickly learn new products and technologies.
What You'll DoWork alongside Business Analysts/SMEs and technical staff to understand project goals and objectives and assist in creating deliverables and supporting project documentation.
Provide recommendations on deliverables to be produced as a result of analysis and design discussions.
Work with technical staff to make deliverables easy to understand.
Organize and write supporting documents as needed.
Select photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts that increase users' understanding.
Revise documents as new issues arise.
Aid in organizing and maintaining the project's SharePoint and other document repositories.
Communicate effectively with internal and external vendors, project team members, management, and agency departments.
Organize information appropriately for technical explanations while considering the needs and aptitude of the audience.
Collaborate and coordinate with multiple teams and vendors.
Work independently and as part of a team.
Multitask and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
Required Qualifications5+ years of related experience in IT, including experience in a position requiring development of structured written materials and visual aids.
3+ years of technical writing experience.
Ability to write, edit, and prepare graphic presentations of technical information for both technical and business personnel.
3+ years of experience with Microsoft SharePoint.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
Experience working with templates and style guidelines for branding consistency.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to absorb and retain complex processes.
Strong language skills and demonstrable understanding of English grammar and usage.
Keen attention to detail while maintaining the ability to see the big picture.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in order to meet deadlines.
Ability to accept changes and constructive criticism in a fast-turnaround environment.
Preferred QualificationsExperience writing Advanced Planning Documents and/or Requests For Proposals.
Understanding of LEAN / Agile development style.
Experience with Biz Agi.
Experience in a government environment.
