Cohesion builds the software, AI, and advisory services that connect people, systems, and spaces in commercial real estate: access control, smart maintenance, tenant experience, and energy management, all from one platform.
About the positionThe Data Product Manager owns the metrics library and the data analysis behind Cohesion's reporting. You define how we measure buildings, occupancy, access, and operations, make sure those numbers are accurate, and turn them into dashboards and analyses customers rely on.
This is a technical, cross-functional role that sits between Product, Engineering, Data, Implementation, Customer Success, and Sales. You write SQL, work directly in our data platform, and translate customer questions into metric definitions and requirements Engineering can build against.
What you will do Metrics library ownership- Own the metrics library: the single, governed set of metric definitions behind our dashboards, customer reports, and quarterly business reviews.
- Define, document, and version each metric, including its source data, calculation logic, and known caveats.
- Decide which metrics get added, changed, or retired, and keep every consumer of a metric in sync when it changes.
- Partner with Engineering and Data on the pipelines that feed the library, and set data quality checks that catch problems before customers see them.
- Analyze building, occupancy, access control, energy, and operational data.
- Use SQL to investigate data quality issues and trace them to their source.
- Validate data completeness and accuracy for new and existing customers.
- Create dashboards and executive-ready analyses.
- Work within our Databricks environment.
- Own the roadmap for data and reporting features, prioritized by customer impact.
- Translate customer and stakeholder requirements into clear specs, acceptance criteria, and metric definitions.
- Work with Engineering through delivery, testing, and release, and confirm what shipped matches what was specified.
- Track product work and report progress to stakeholders.
- Support client implementations where data onboarding, mapping, or validation is involved.
- Build tools, templates, and workflows that make data onboarding consistent across projects.
- Assist with technical discovery and product demonstrations involving data and reporting.
- 4+ years in data product management, technical program management, analytics, or a related role.
- SQL proficiency and the ability to query data independently.
- Working knowledge of relational databases and data modeling.
- Experience defining and maintaining business metrics or a semantic layer, including documentation and change management.
- Familiarity with APIs, data mapping, and integration testing.
- Experience with a BI tool such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Databricks.
- Experience writing product requirements and working with engineering teams through delivery.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work from our Chicago office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
- Experience with Databricks or a comparable cloud analytics platform.
- Understanding of data engineering concepts, including ETL/ELT and pipelines.
- Familiarity with Python or notebooks.
- Experience with enterprise software implementation.
- Experience in smart building, proptech, or enterprise SaaS.
- Background at a startup or high-growth technology company.
