Systems Administrator

Piper Companies is seeking a System Administrator to join a leading government contracting and national security organization for a remote contract position. The System Administrator will support and maintain critical Solaris and Linux infrastructure environments, ensuring secure, reliable, and compliant operations across enterprise systems.

• Administer and maintain enterprise Solaris and Linux server environments, ensuring system stability, availability, and performance.
• Manage storage infrastructure, backup operations, and disaster recovery processes utilizing enterprise-class storage and backup technologies.
• Conduct operating system patching, package deployments, and configuration management activities across production systems.
• Perform vulnerability assessments, remediation efforts, and system hardening initiatives to maintain compliance with security requirements.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure issues, support security audits, and collaborate with technical teams on upgrades, incident response, and operational improvements.

• Active TS/SCI Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) clearance.
• Active CompTIA Security+ certification.
• 3+ years of experience administering Solaris operating systems within enterprise environments.
• 3+ years of Linux system administration experience supporting RHEL, CentOS, OLVM, or comparable platforms.
• Hands-on experience supporting IBM enterprise storage solutions.
• Strong background administering Veritas Net Backup environments and backup recovery operations.
• Experience performing vulnerability scanning and remediation using Nessus or similar security tools.
• Knowledge of YUM repositories, package management, and operating system patching best practices.
• Familiarity with security compliance frameworks, STE/STIN processes, and system hardening methodologies.
• Scripting experience with Bash, Python, or similar automation technologies.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered.
• RHCSA certification, automation tooling experience (Ansible, Puppet), and exposure to cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments are preferred.

• Salary Range: $145,000-$165,000/year (USD)
