Senior Technical Claims Specialist – Construction Complex
Senior Technical Claims Specialist determines coverage, investigates complex and highly complex commercial casualty claims, determines liability, sets and adjusts reserves, evaluates the claim, negotiates a settlement, authorizes and resolves the claim. Demonstrates a high level of expertise and sound judgment in complex matters; may act as a subject matter expert. The role is within the Construction Vertical, handling bodily injury and discreet property damage claims.
The role does not handle Construction Defect losses.
There is a strong preference for candidates to live within a 50‑mile radius of one of the listed hub offices (Boston, MA;
Westborough, MA;
Plano, TX;
Suwanee, GA; Indianapolis, IN; Hoffman Estates, IL; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Chandler, AZ; or Weatogue, CT). This policy is subject to change. Remote candidates will be considered if they do not live within 50‑miles of one of these offices.
- As the claim’s owner, determine coverage, investigate the claim, determine liability, set and adjust reserves, evaluate the claim, negotiate a settlement, authorize and pay the claim; may deny claims.
- Review lawsuit documentation and supporting documents, claims file, investigation, etc., and establish actions to resolve lawsuit.
- Determine loss coverage, amounts owed, discovery plans, setting reserves and negotiations.
- Establish appropriate working team (Home Office Legal, Defense Counsel, and Home Office Claims) based on allegations established in suit.
- Manage the practices and billing activities of outside counsel.
- Ensure security of financial processing of claims and security of information contained in claims files.
- Train and mentor staff as appropriate; manage relationships and act as liaison with various business partners (e.g., Underwriting, Reinsurance).
- Stay abreast of existing and proposed legislation, court decisions, trends, and experience pertaining to specialty coverage issues.
- Analyze the impact on claims policies and procedures; advise Claims.
- Manage appropriate actions where required.
- Participate in special projects.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 7 years of claims adjusting experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Commercial Casualty claims investigation, coverage evaluation, reserving & expense management, resolution strategy, negotiation, litigation management, claims evaluation, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment.
- Intermediate to advanced customer focus, problem solving, communication, gaining support, teamwork, and adaptability; proven ability to work independently, achieve results, and execute thoroughly.
- Construction Liability or Commercial General Liability claims experience preferred.
The salary range for this role is $82,000 – $157,000 per year. The range reflects differing factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, and location, and may include commission and/or bonus components.
