Overview
Account Manager - Specialty Auto Wholesale role at The Hartford. The Account Manager, as part of Global Specialty Operations, serves as a critical partner to the Specialty Auto underwriting teams. The individual focuses on service experience and book of business management, while also acting as a key contact for underwriters and brokers. This is an individual contributor role without supervisory responsibilities.
This position works in a team environment which can span multiple offices; however, the individual is expected to exercise decision making skills and problem solving while working independently and prioritizing a high-volume workload. Complexity of work ranges from standard, routine tasks to more complex problem solving and analytical assignments. Some project work may be assigned as needed.
This role has a Hybrid work schedule with in-office expectations in Chicago, IL;
Overland Park, KS;
Greenwood Village, CO;
Hartford, CT;
Danbury, CT;
Alpharetta, GA, 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
- New and renewal analysis / loss analysis and prep for quotes
- Prepare and issue binders, policies, endorsements and follow up for missing subjectivities
- Some rating analysis required for renewal prep and underwriting thought process
- Review and analyze endorsement requests, escalate issues as required, and process endorsements
- Complete underlying policy analysis on each excess policy and send for underwriting review (terms and conditions, exposures, general information, aggregates)
- Serve as a point of contact for brokers and provide an optimal customer service experience on behalf of the company
- Adhere to compliance standards and maintain account files and underwriting documentation
- Participate in projects as requested/needed
- Partner with underwriting teams within Global Specialty Wholesale Commercial to focus on service experience and book of business management, with metrics of retention, profitability, and growth
- Maintain market knowledge to contribute to the Commercial organization’s success
- Build and maintain relationships with wholesale broker contacts and decision makers; deliver excellent broker/producer service
- Support marketing visits with underwriters and sales staff (target: 3 per year)
- Prepare submissions for rating and act as a gatekeeper between broker, underwriter, and operations
- Prequalify renewal and new business submissions; summarize findings and advise on pursuing or declining
- Attend monthly pre-qualification meetings with underwriters; provide renewal/new business recommendations
- Maintain timeliness and information in underwriting files
- Negotiate effectively in tough situations to achieve win/win outcomes for brokers and the company
- Support sales through understanding of Wholesale Market Strategies and book of business
- Use information gathering and diagnostic skills to solve problems
- Coordinate activities for supporting tasks on new submissions and renewal accounts
- Prioritize territory workload based on service requirements
- Monitor performance to meet quality objectives and service commitments
- Facilitate routing of tasks between broker, underwriters, service team, and home office
- Back up other Account Managers as needed
- Support various projects as determined by Operations/underwriting staff
- Prior Commercial Market Insurance industry experience as an Account Manager, Rater, or similar role at a carrier/agency
- Functional knowledge of Commercial Lines rating
- Knowledge of Commercial Property, Commercial Excess Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Auto, General Liability
- Excess & Surplus experience a plus
- College degree preferred
- Strong customer service orientation and relationship-building skills
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Strong technical ability
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Professional demeanor
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge of Image Right and other insurance platforms is desirable
- Ability to support central time zone business hours
The listed annual base pay range is $59,200 - $88,800. Base pay may vary based on performance, proficiency, and demonstrated competencies. This base pay is one component of The Hartford’s total compensation, which may also include bonuses and other incentives. The annualized base pay range for this role is provided here for transparency.
