Head of Commercial Casualty Claims, Home Office

Our client, a well-established National P&C Insurance leader in the Commercial Lines market, is looking to add a Head of Commercial Casualty Claims to oversee and guide their Home Office claims team which handles the most complex / high-exposure Commercial General Liability losses for the organization. This senior leadership role requires deep technical expertise related to General Liability, Garagekeepers, Liquor Liability, and Excess Casualty claims throughout the United States.

This role will encompass the strategic design and claims handling execution within the Commercial Claims department while maintaining exceptional service and performance standards. In addition, this position will contribute to company-wide goals, driving long‑term profitability, employee development, and organizational success. Client would prefer the candidate to reside in either Connecticut or New York.

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the entire claims operation, ensuring efficient and effective handling of all Commercial Casualty claims.
• Supervise and mentor senior‑level claims staff, including complex claims managers and technical leads.
• Oversee high‑exposure general liability claims and provide guidance on coverage, litigation strategy, and settlement authority.
• Develop, implement, and maintain best practices for claims handling, reserving, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
• Represent the company in key reinsurance discussions, large loss reviews, and internal audit or regulatory matters.
• Participate in executive‑level planning, supporting organizational goals and performance benchmarks.
• Collaborate closely with underwriting, legal, actuarial, and executive leadership teams to provide insights on claims trends and risk evaluation.

• 10+ years of Commercial Casualty claims handling and leadership experience, with a strong concentration in Commercial General Liability claims.
• Must have 8+ years of Commercial General Liability claims experience while working directly for an Insurance Carrier.
• Experience in managing / overseeing E&S Commercial Casualty claims is strongly preferred.
• Proven track record of successfully managing senior claims personnel and large claim portfolios.
• Experience managing Home Office or Large Loss claims personnel is required.
• Deep understanding of litigation management, coverage analysis, reserving practices, and jurisdictional nuances.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or industry designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC) preferred.

• $225,000 - $300,000+ base salary plus 20-30% annual performance bonus
