• Analyze risk for individual applicants and employer group coverage to determine eligibility based on various factors
• Make risk selection decisions in a quality, timely, and productive manner
• Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers through effective communication
• Process and underwrite specialty products and manage assigned project work
• Serve as the subject matter expert for lower-level underwriters and assist in training

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent insurance-related work experience
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Group Health Benefits underwriting preferred
• Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with analytical skills in risk analysis

• Life Office Management Association (LOMA) certification preferred
• Knowledge of the health insurance market and underwriting processes
• Strong attention to detail and ability to relate well to other departments
• Experience with risk assessment of specialty products
