Job Overview

Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking an experienced and motivated Field Investigator to join our team. We offer a merit-based work-from-home program based on job responsibilities, with initial in-person training and flexible work-from-home options as defined by leadership.

• Investigate, evaluate and determine appropriate disposition of all types of claims arising out of the company’s business.
• Provide customer service to agents, insureds and others in the course of handling claims to their conclusion.
• Meet with people involved with claims, occasionally outside the office environment.
• Serve as a trainer/resource for branch associates in the Claims Department.
• Analyze and investigate to identify issues that may warrant additional investigation.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Prior law enforcement is preferred but not required.
• Ability to handle conflict and be comfortable in diverse situations.
• Field Claim Rep with Auto and field experience preferred.
• Ability to read, interpret, and react to documents such as insurance policies, procedure manuals, and legal documents.
• Ability to assemble information, develop opinions, and clearly express decisions using sound reasoning and judgment.
• Ability to write reports and compose correspondence.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with good problem resolution and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in mathematics and financial areas, and understanding of personal and business finance documents.
• Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with all types of people.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record consistent with the company’s underwriting guidelines.
• Ability to organize assigned work.
• Ability to maintain a professional image.
