Branch Claims Representative

Overview

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated claims trainee to join our team. The role involves handling entry-level insurance claims under close supervision through the entire claim life cycle, from investigation and evaluation to settlement. The position includes a merit-based work‑from‑home program based on job responsibilities, with initial in‑person training and the flexibility to work from home as determined by leadership.

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry‑level insurance claims.
• Study insurance policies, endorsements, and forms to develop foundational knowledge of company insurance products.
• Learn and comply with company claim handling procedures.
• Develop entry‑level claim negotiation and settlement skills.
• Build skills to effectively serve the needs of agents, insureds, and other stakeholders.
• Meet and communicate with claimants, legal counsel, and third parties.
• Develop specialized skills, including estimating and use of designated computer‑based programs for loss adjustment.
• Study, obtain, and maintain an adjuster’s license(s) if required by statute or company policy within the established timeline.
• Continually develop product knowledge through participation in approved educational programs.

• Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent experience with property/casualty claims handling.
• Ability to organize data, multi‑task, and make decisions independently.
• Above‑average written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in writing reports and composing correspondence.
• Ability to resolve complex issues and maintain confidentiality and data security.
• Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals.
• Strong mathematical skills, including geometry (area and volume) and financial calculations.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record consistent with company underwriting guidelines.
