Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
- Develop and implement risk assessment models to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.
- Collaborate with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain necessary information and provide guidance.
- Procure and analyze supplementary reports and screenings (motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, external inspections) to support underwriting decisions.
- Ensure proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.
- Evaluate complex policy renewals and modifications, identifying opportunities for policy enhancements and risk mitigation.
- Communicate underwriting strategies and decisions effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.
- Maintain effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers, focusing on generating new business and retaining profitable business.
- Monitor and evaluate underwriting practices, assisting with implementing strategic adjustments to improve overall effectiveness and outcomes.
- Possibly supervise staff, coaching and talent selection decisions for direct reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 9 years of experience in underwriting or a related field.
- Completion of or progress toward a professional designation preferred (AU, CPCU, CIC, INS, ARM, or marketing designation).
- Performs work under limited supervision with significant latitude and authority on complex assignments.
- Advanced knowledge of company policies and industry laws and regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced analytical, risk assessment, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong negotiation and decision‑making ability.
- Familiarity with marketing strategies and tools beneficial.
- Viewed as a senior resource on the underwriting team; provides technical advice to lower‑level positions.
- Ability to travel occasionally.
Office based in Gainesville, GA. Hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote). Remote work possible for Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Position requires occasional travel.
Salary and BenefitsSalary range: $62,700.00 - $94,620.00.
