Field – In‑office in New York City. Additional offices are available in Albany, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Omaha and Richmond (VA). Remote work is possible except in the states of AK, DE, HI, KY, MI, MS, MT, ND, SD or VT. The position requires 100% on‑site presence during standard business hours.

Field Summary

Join our team as a Senior Environmental Claims Adjuster to adjudicate first‑ and third‑party commercial environmental claims, primarily complex storage‑tank claims, and provide superb results for clients. The role reports to a senior manager in New York City.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Adjudicate moderately complex commercial environmental claims under limited technical direction.
  • Analyze claims forms, policies, endorsements and client instructions to determine coverage.
  • Write coverage letters and investigate claims, interviewing all involved parties.
  • Manage claims in litigation, ensuring timely resolution and best financial outcome.
  • Create and review reserves in line with market and Argo’s reserving policy.
  • Identify loss drivers and claims trends to reduce frequency and severity through data analysis.
  • Coordinate assignment of expertise resources for case resolution.
  • Prepare reports for file documentation and apply creative solutions for financial outcomes.
  • Negotiate cost‑effective solutions within limits, using a range of negotiation styles.
  • Prioritize workload, process mail, make telephone calls and maintain written correspondence with insureds, claimants, etc.
  • Demonstrate strong claim management passion and uphold excellent communication and customer service focus.
Qualifications / Experience Required
  • Good business acumen – understand how an insurance company operates and how this role impacts profitability.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial environmental claims and exceptional customer service focus.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience adjudicating commercial environmental claims.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent (two or more insurance designations or four additional years of related experience may substitute).
  • Licensed Claims Examiner (or ability to obtain requisite licenses within 90 days).
  • Excellent communication, evaluation, strategic, negotiation, time‑management and independent judgment skills.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to prioritize workload while handling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to articulate financial value of work to senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other business software.
  • Fluent reading and writing in English.
  • Commitment to continued professional development through ongoing education.
Pay Ranges
  • $101,184 – $119,782 – Colorado (outside Denver metro), Delaware, Illinois (outside Chicago metro), Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts (outside Boston metro), Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia.
  • $111,384 – $132,498 – Boston metro area, California (outside Los Angeles & San Francisco metro), Connecticut, Chicago metro, Denver metro, New Jersey (outside New York City metro), New York State (outside New York City metro), Washington, D.C. metro, Washington State.
  • $121,482 – $144,636 – New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco metro areas.
