The Hartford Financial Lines Errors & Omissions E&O Claims Group has an open Claim Consultant position handling a caseload of third‑party Miscellaneous and Allied Health Professional Liability claims, from inception to final disposition. As these claims are often in litigation, experience handling Professional Liability matters is required.
Responsibilities- Conduct investigations and analyze and evaluate the information learned.
- Appropriately and accurately analyze and determine coverage, liability and damages based upon the facts of each claim.
- Write and communicate to insureds in regard to coverage, liability, damages and other issues.
- Set appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitor regularly for any needed adjustment.
- Present cases to management for expense or indemnity reserve authority above established authority levels.
- Develop and implement resolution strategies through negotiations to achieve high quality outcomes.
- Proactively manage litigation and counsel, inclusive of litigation planning and execution, budgeting and bill review.
- Understand and analyze potential extra‑contractual liability as needed.
- Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
- Contribute to broader claim and enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects, training and product development initiatives.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy issues, industry trends, etc.
- Provide support and work collaboratively with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments.
- Address inquiries from agents and policyholders, providing superior customer service.
- Provide key training and marketing support to Underwriters.
- Juris Doctorate strongly preferred.
- Minimum of three years handling third‑party Professional Liability insurance defense or Professional Liability coverage litigation required.
- Experience handling bodily injury matters required.
- Experience handling medical malpractice or allied health preferred.
- Familiarity and experience with AI‑powered tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, is a plus.
- Candidates should be disciplined, results‑oriented and able to focus on bottom line results.
- Candidates are required to have knowledge and experience handling all aspects of liability claims.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent strategic thinking ability and execution skills.
- Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills.
- Knowledge of insurance coverage issues a plus.
- Superior time, task prioritization and desk management skills.
- An ability to communicate thoughts clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others.
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Scottsdale, AZ, Lake Mary, FL, Naperville, IL and Alpharetta, GA) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include short‑term or annual bonuses, long‑term incentives, and on‑the‑spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $122,400 - $183,600.
