- Conduct field investigations to resolve residential and commercial property claims.
- Examine and apply claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine coverage and client exposure.
- Adjust all elements of property loss claims of varying levels of severity and complexity.
- Set loss reserves.
- Prepare written reports by collecting and summarizing information required by the client.
- Prepare settlement letters, denial letters, reservation of rights and other letters as needed.
- Maintain the expected case load.
- Maintain company reputation and integrity of work product by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
- Assist less‑experienced adjusters with claims handling when requested.
- Participate in special projects or perform duties in other areas if requested.
- Document damage and prepare written estimates using Xactimate software.
- Handle content inventories to include moderate to complex pricing analysis and prepare claim inventory reports.
- Conduct subrogation investigations.
- Engage and manage consultants/independent contractors to assist in determining facts, causation, damage and exposure.
- Keep the client and the insured informed about the claim status with clear, timely and accurate written and oral communication.
- Negotiate settlement of claims of varying complexity under the direction of the claims manager or supervisor.
- Travel to loss locations in the assigned territory.
- Record time and expense charges to bill clients.
- Maintain adjuster license(s) when required.
- High school diploma required; advanced education beyond high school preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous experience as a claims adjuster or completion of Capstone specified adjuster training if none.
- Working knowledge of Xactimate preferred for those with prior adjuster experience.
- Must be licensed, or have the ability to obtain license(s), as required by state and local jurisdictions to adjust insurance claims.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds, including lifting a ladder in and out of the trunk of a vehicle.
- Ability to climb ladders and traverse roofs, including working at heights while inspecting roofs and attics.
- Ability to work in a confined or restricted area.
- Ability to kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, sit, walk, push, pull, etc., as required to inspect claims.
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in a high volume, fast‑paced environment managing multiple tasks.
- Excellent service orientation to policyholders and clients.
- Proficiency in operating a computer and related claims and business software.
- Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills necessary to make decisions and resolve conflict.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
- Independent work capability in a virtual environment when required.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
