Job Overview

Cherokee Insurance, a leading commercial Property/Casualty insurance provider, is seeking a Claims Assistant to work on-site at our corporate office in Sterling Heights, MI. This entry level role supports the Claims Coordinator, Manager, and Adjusters with claim processing tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general assistance to Adjusters, the Claims Coordinator, and Claims Manager in opening, adjusting, and closing claims.
  • Check for police reports online and attach them to claims when available.
  • Get mail when mail is called and distribute incoming faxes.
  • Process BRICS payments, stop pays, form letters, and miscellaneous documents for adjusters.
  • Proofread, attach, and mail out BX payments.
  • Process total loss titles, subrogation payments, and Right Signature requests.
  • Run claim searches and address searches in ISO; report claims to ISO.
  • Send out certified letters, answer claims calls, and provide customer service to insureds, claimants, and other parties.
  • Assist adjusters working from home by processing documents, scanning claim files, and providing support.
  • Help back up front desk/phones when needed.
  • Run title searches and MVRs.
  • Print and distribute Review Works in the Claims Coordinator’s absence; pull daily mail and distribute.
  • Assign new claims in BX and monitor and distribute claims emails.
  • Scan and send field adjusters’ mail.
  • Check with adjusters and offer assistance if needed.
Qualifications
  • Computer literacy required; proficiency in various software types.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Development of conceptual knowledge of insurance claims processing at Cherokee and implementation of improvements.
Level & Education

Level: Entry level, with increasing responsibility and advancement opportunity based on needs and performance.

Education:

College coursework preferred but not required. High school diploma required.
