Senior Workers Compensation Claims Specialist – West Region
Liberty Mutual is seeking a Senior Workers Compensation Claims Specialist to join a fast‑growing team that consistently outpaces industry growth. This role focuses on reviewing, analyzing, and processing moderately complex to complex claims within assigned authority limits, making decisions on liability/compensability, evaluating losses, negotiating settlements, and managing an inventory of commercial property/casualty claims involving bodily injury or property loss.
Location & Remote Policy- Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Lake Oswego, OR;
Chandler, AZ and will be required to work onsite twice a month. - Candidates residing in CA and WA may be considered for 100% remote work (subject to change).
- Plan and conduct investigations of claims, including interviewing insureds, witnesses, and claimants, collecting and evaluating documentation, securing evidence, and protecting chain of custody to analyze and confirm coverage, determine liability, compensability and damages.
- Determine the need for and engage independent adjusters, cause and origin experts and independent medical examiners.
- Refer claims to the subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate.
- Assess policy coverage, notify the insured of any issues, establish reserve requirements and adjust reserves during the claim processing.
- Assess actual damages and conduct negotiations within authority limits to settle claims.
- Coordinate litigation activities to ensure timely and cost‑effective resolution; attend trials representing the company.
- Act as senior technical professional on the team, assisting with escalated issues.
- Mentor and train new team members.
- Participate in Quality Review process.
- Participate in Suit Committees, Round tables, Arbitrations, Mediations, field investigations, and closed file reviews.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for communication and negotiation with customers and for conducting investigations.
- Leadership ability with demonstrated time‑management skills to delegate work and organize resources effectively.
- Advanced knowledge of claims case handling practices, legal liability, general insurance policy coverage, and state tort laws, typically gained through a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent training) plus 3–5 years of directly related experience.
- Must obtain and maintain all applicable licenses.
The typical starting salary range is determined by skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value and provides growth opportunities. Some roles may include commission and/or bonus earnings based on the compensation plan.
