Under limited supervision and established practices, the Technical Claims Specialist is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and disposition of environmental and emerging risk general liability and business auto claims of moderate to high exposure.
Responsibilities- Investigates claims to determine coverage; analyses applicable policy provisions and drafts coverage position letters, sometimes with Home Office Legal coverage counsel.
- Establishes liability and verifies damages; resolves claims within authority and recommends case value and resolution strategy to Unit Manager for cases exceeding authority.
- Works closely with defense counsel in managing litigated files per established litigation management protocols.
- Identifies and appropriately handles suspicious claims.
- Identifies and appropriately handles claims with third party subrogation potential.
- Establishes and maintains accurate reserves on all assigned files; makes timely reserve recommendations to Unit Manager for cases exceeding authority.
- Prepares for and attends mediation sessions and/or settlement conferences and negotiates on behalf of LMG and LMG Insureds.
- Monitors trials and reports daily to Unit Manager; recommends strategy based on developments.
- Confers directly with policyholders on coverage and resolution strategy issues.
- Establishes and updates action plans on assigned claims that reflect file status and disposition strategy.
- Provides support for more senior claim handlers on team, including special claim and account level projects and data organization.
- Solid understanding of General Liability and Business Auto claims handling techniques and a working knowledge of LMG Claims procedures.
- Strong writing skills and ability to draft clear and concise coverage position letters and authority memos for complex claims.
- Required a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent business experience.
- Typically 4–5 years of related claims experience.
