Account Specialist - Commercial Lines – Sentry Insurance, Edwardsville, IL.
What You’ll Do- Serve as the primary point of contact and resource for producers, customers, and agents within the territory.
- Build positive relationships with producers, customers, agents, and team members to enhance service experience and retention.
- Assist sales producers or agents in maximizing selling time by servicing existing books, supporting cross‑selling activities, and collaborating with placement agencies on risks unacceptable to Sentry.
- Identify opportunities, make detailed decisions, and understand risks and consequences of business decisions.
- Own all service‑related items (calls, emails, faxes) regarding service needs, changes, questions, and problems.
- Proactively monitor and ensure completion of service needs, including quotes, renewals, policy changes, billing, audit, and other items.
- Maintain knowledge of procedures, policies, and state requirements.
- Independently manage small commercial books of business within the assigned territories, focusing on experience, retention, and sales opportunities.
- Create new and renewal applications for these businesses.
- Apply sound underwriting principles and stay current on commercial lines products and excess markets.
- Liaise between sales producers, underwriting, internal departments, and customers/agents to gather underwriting requirements and documents.
- Monitor status of outstanding quotes, renewals, and policy changes.
- Own the service team and overall service experience of supported territories.
- Respond promptly to inquiries and maintain frequent contact with customers, agents, and producers.
- Associate Degree or equivalent work experience.
- 2+ years of related work experience.
- Property & Casualty License required; otherwise must obtain within 120 days of hire.
- Prior Commercial Lines insurance experience desired, with knowledge of commercial products and underwriting guidelines.
- Ability to interpret and apply commercial insurance concepts and underwriting guidelines.
- Limited travel to attend team meetings or meet prospects/current customers.
- Strong PC skills and ability to quickly learn various software applications.
- Composure, strong customer‑service skills, and ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Presentation and selling skills required.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment and work independently with little direction.
- Hybrid work model:
Work from home Monday and Friday; in‑office Tuesday through Thursday. - In‑office workspace with materials; laptop and home‑office equipment provided prior to start.
