The National Accounts Taft-Hartley & Federal Business Risk & Underwriting Senior Manager is responsible for managing a specific business line within the National Accounts/03000 segment including a small team of underwriters and a few individual account assignments that may include some of the segment's more complex accounts. The role is responsible for achieving earnings, persistency, growth, service and expense objectives within the Taft-Hartley and Federal Business organization and for managing/developing an Underwriting staff.

The Senior Manager will support the aligned Underwriting Director to the Taft-Hartley Organization and other National Accounts Underwriting Directors in carrying out other segment/departmental objectives. The role requires a deep understanding of Cigna's suite of solutions that can be used to solve client specific needs and a willingness to meet with key brokers, sales offices and target clients to assess market trends, develop strategic focus and adjust market goals as necessary.

Assists in broker/client development and handles high risk major impact negotiations directly. Responsibilities span all products offered including specialty products for a specific market. Proven skill in understanding market and industry wide dynamics (consumers, broker/consultant community, competitors, skill/experience of sales force, product performance, etc.) to set earnings and growth strategies. Knowledge of marketplace, including product offerings, regulatory environment, provider contracts, and other competitor offerings.

• Role includes both people management and case-level Underwriting assignment responsibility across an existing book of business and new business/prospecting opportunities.
• Direct management responsibilities for up to 3 or 4 experienced Underwriters.
• Responsible for achieving market earnings, persistency, growth, service and expense objectives.
• Responsible for assisting/developing and achieving business plans, setting strategic direction and managing/developing an Underwriting staff.
• Meets with key brokers, sales offices and target clients to assess market trends, develop strategic focus and adjust market goals as necessary.
• Assists in broker/client development and handles high risk major impact negotiations directly.
• Responsibilities span all products offered including specialty products and all medical funding types.
• Proven skill in understanding O3000 market and industry wide dynamics (consumers, broker/consultant community, competitors, skill/experience of sales force, product performance, etc.) to set strategies/tactics to achieve both earnings and revenue growth objectives.

• 5+ years of Health Care Underwriting experience
• Prior management experience preferred
• Experience in the financial, insurance or managed care industry or significant marketing and/or business development experience in another field.
• Thorough knowledge of factors that influence market and competitive conditions.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise-wide objectives and ability to influence change across matrix partners.
• Demonstrates passion and dedication to anticipating and meeting the expectations and requirements of clients and customers.
• Ability to lead client discussions and effectively represent Cigna's capabilities.
• Maintain and support direct client relationships.
• Influence organization to meet external marketplace demands.
• Ability to communicate analytical findings to all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work well and influence within a cross-functional team.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of people.
• Knowledge of marketplace, including product offerings, regulatory environment, competitor offerings, provider contracts and the dynamics of the retail sales/enrollment.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 120, USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location. This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
