The Hartford is seeking a motivated, positive individual to join its claims team. The Marine Claims professional will maintain and process Marine claims across a wide variety of categories, including Marine Liability (P&I), Primary and Excess, MGL, Craft, MEL, and Transport, and proactively investigate, negotiate, and resolve high‑exposure claims involving complex issues and/or litigation.

• Analyse claims for coverage, adjust, and pay properly within company guidelines.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients.
• Coordinate and manage communication with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Underwriting, reinsurers, external vendors) to ensure the highest level of customer service.
• Investigate high‑exposure claims that involve complex issues and/or litigation and require qualified legal analysis.
• Evaluate and address coverage issues and determine appropriate reserving levels.
• Maintain an active diary and drive effective subrogation/salvage processes.
• Ensure all claims are handled within authority limits and in line with company procedures and guidelines.
• Select vendors, lawyers, independent surveyors, and monitor expenses paid to these vendors to ensure service quality.
• Review and analyze claim reports to identify and address trends, and develop strategies to correct adverse trends.
• Travel as required for mediations.

• Five or more years of experience handling Ocean Marine claims.
• Strong claims technical knowledge and legal exposure essential.
• Expert understanding of relevant products, wordings, terms, conditions and coverages.
• Expert knowledge of the claims handling process from notification to settlement and recovery.
• Strong litigation management skills and experience attending mediations.
• Excellent written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively across various levels.
• Capable of working and collaborating with virtual team members.
• Proactive approach, anticipating needs, and prioritizing multiple work streams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Four‑year college degree preferred.

This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Lake Mary, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Naperville, IL) are expected to work in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

The annualized base pay range for this role is $62,400 - $127,200. The base pay is one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package, which may also include short‑term or annual bonuses, long‑term incentives, and on‑the‑spot recognition.
