Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers, cedants, managing general agents (MGAs), and other market partners to identify growth opportunities and strengthen Bay Harbor Re’s profile in the reinsurance market.
  • Lead the opportunity process from prospecting through execution, including evaluating the underlying business, counter parties, and proposed structure; coordinating pricing; and negotiating terms and conditions.
  • Develop clear business cases for new and renewal treaties and obtain approval from senior underwriters and executive management.
  • Monitor treaty performance through underwriting audits, contract review, special-acceptance management, and tracking of key performance indicators.
  • Manage the assigned treaty portfolio to deliver profitable results consistent with Bay Harbor Re’s underwriting standards and financial objectives.
  • Represent Bay Harbor Re at industry programs, conferences, client meetings, and other market events.
  • Support annual planning by forecasting portfolio results and providing commentary on treaty performance, emerging trends, and market intelligence.
  • Maintain timely, accurate underwriting documentation and communicate material developments to internal stakeholders.
Travel Requirements

Travel will vary based on territory and employee location. Candidates should generally expect approximately two to five days of travel per month for audits, marketing activities, client meetings, and industry conferences. Employees based outside Southeast Michigan should also expect an additional two to five days of travel per quarter for meetings at Bay Harbor Re’s home office.

Qualifications
  • Three to ten years of experience in U.S. property and/or casualty treaty reinsurance underwriting. Candidates with relevant facultative reinsurance or primary insurance underwriting experience may also be considered.
  • Experience with, or strong knowledge of, several of the following lines:
    General Liability, Commercial Auto Liability, Excess Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Commercial Property, Professional Liability, and Personal Lines.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship-management, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and financial-evaluation skills.
