Role Description The Underwriting Assistant is a full-time, hybrid role based in Baton Rouge, LA, with flexibility for some work from home. This role supports underwriters with the review and processing of new and renewal submissions, including data entry, rating, and preparation of quotes and binders. The Underwriting Assistant will gather and verify information from brokers and internal stakeholders, maintain accurate records in underwriting and policy administration systems, and assist with policy issuance and endorsements.
Day-to-day responsibilities include organizing documentation, monitoring deadlines, preparing reports, and helping ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and compliance standards. The role also involves responding to routine inquiries, providing professional customer service, and contributing to the efficiency and accuracy of the underwriting workflow.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Analytical Skills to review data, identify trends, and support sound underwriting decisions.
- Candidates should possess effective Communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication with internal teams and external partners.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of Insurance concepts, property coverage, and basic underwriting principles, or a strong willingness to learn.
- Candidates should possess Customer Service skills to handle inquiries professionally and build positive relationships with brokers and clients.
- Candidates should possess an interest or experience in Underwriting support, including document management, rating assistance, and policy processing.
- Additional beneficial qualifications include strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proficiency with office and insurance software systems, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Post-secondary education in business, finance, risk management, or a related field, or relevant insurance experience, is preferred.
