Role Description

The Complex Claim Specialist is responsible for managing and resolving complex and high-severity insurance claims within Hiscox USA’s specialty portfolio (Cyber, Crime, Media, Tech E&O). This full-time role involves investigating claims, reviewing coverage, analyzing policy language, assessing liability and damages, and negotiating fair and timely settlements. The specialist will coordinate with underwriters, legal counsel, brokers, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and compliant claims handling.

Key tasks include maintaining detailed documentation, monitoring claim reserves, identifying trends and potential risks, and contributing to process improvements and best practices. This is a hybrid role based in West Hartford, CT (or Manhattan, Chicago, Boston, Scottsdale), with a combination of in-office work and work-from-home flexibility (2 days in office).

Qualifications
  • Strong claims management and claims handling skills, with experience in complex or specialty insurance lines.
  • Solid analytical skills to interpret policy language, evaluate coverage, assess liability, and analyze financial exposure.
  • Knowledge of insurance principles, products, and regulations, preferably within specialty or commercial lines.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with internal teams, external partners, and insureds, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in negotiation, dispute resolution, and settlement strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously, prioritize workloads, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with claims management systems and standard office software tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Business, Finance, Risk Management) or equivalent work experience.
  • Relevant professional designations (e.g., CPCU, AIC) or progress toward them are beneficial.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct, regulatory compliance, and continuous professional development.
