The Hartford is seeking a Head of Energy to lead the vision, strategy, execution, and financial performance of its national Energy portfolio.
This executive will serve as the senior business leader and underwriting authority for Energy, with accountability for profitable growth, underwriting excellence, portfolio performance, market expansion, operational effectiveness, and long-term strategy.
Energy is a strategic growth opportunity for The Hartford. This leader will build on a strong foundation while positioning the business to capture opportunities across traditional and renewable energy sectors.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical underwriting expertise, executive-level business leadership, and a strong market presence with brokers, insureds, distribution partners, and senior internal stakeholders.
As the external face of The Hartford's Energy franchise, this leader will help shape the business, strengthen market relevance, and develop the next generation of Energy underwriting talent.

What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree required; CPCU, ARM, CRM, or similar industry designation preferred.
- 12+ years of Commercial Property & Casualty insurance experience required; 15+ years preferred.
- Deep Energy underwriting expertise across traditional and emerging energy sectors.
- Experience leading underwriting portfolios, operating plans, profit centers, or complex specialty businesses.
- Strong understanding of Energy risk management, pricing, portfolio management, distribution, and market dynamics.
- Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing underwriting organizations.
- Financial acumen and experience managing portfolio performance and profitability.
- Credible market presence with brokers, customers, and industry stakeholders.
- Ability to influence across a matrixed organization and align diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, strategic thinking, negotiation, and executive leadership skills.
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work schedule. Preferred locations are Dallas, TX, Houston, TX or Denver, CO but open for the right skillset. Candidates who live near one of our office locations have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week, Tuesday through Thursday. Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$184,000 - $276,000
