This Underwriting team supports the growth and profitability of the Supplemental Accounts portfolio by evaluating risk, making sound underwriting decisions, and fostering strong business relationships. Contributes to the retention and acquisition of profitable business through effective analysis, communication, and decision‑making. Develops underwriting expertise through ongoing training, hands‑on experience, and increasing levels of responsibility, while demonstrating leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to underwriting excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Risk Decisions:
Apply sound, creative underwriting and business judgment in the timely analysis and evaluation of insurance risks to contribute to the growth and profitability of the organization. - Customer Service:
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with assigned field personnel, producers, assigned policyholders and Home Office personnel through professional negotiation, responsive communication, problem resolution and anticipation of customer expectations. - Mentoring and Training:
Provide mentoring and training as appropriate based on job level and experience. - Projects and Special Assignments:
Actively participate in projects to contribute to corporate goals. - This role requires the ability to travel up to two times per year.
- We are considering candidates at the Associate Underwriter, Underwriter, or Senior Underwriter, Supplemental Accounts level, based on qualifications and experience.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred. - Associate Underwriter, Supplemental Accounts
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of experience in insurance underwriting, insurance operations, or a related underwriting support function. - Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate data for financial and risk analysis.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze information, recognize patterns and inconsistencies, and make recommendations based on established underwriting guidelines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Underwriter, Supplemental Accounts
Experience:
3+ years of relevant underwriting experience. - In‑depth experience managing more complex underwriting cases and risk assessments.
- Strong expertise in analyzing financial and risk data for a variety of cases.
- Experience in working with multiple departments to assess and resolve more complex cases.
- Proven ability to handle high‑level decision‑making with minimal supervision.
- Ability to mentor or guide less experienced team members.
- Senior Underwriter, Supplemental Accounts
Experience:
5+ years of relevant underwriting experience. - Advanced expertise in analyzing financial, demographic, and risk‑related data across diverse case types.
- Proven experience partnering with multiple departments to evaluate and resolve highly complex underwriting situations.
- Ability to effectively manage escalations and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to make high‑level underwriting decisions and exercise independent judgment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to mentor, coach, and develop less experienced team members.
