The Manobo Telephone Interpreter is responsible for handling calls on demand, rendering the meaning of conversations between Manobo and English speakers. The interpreter works in a wide range of industries served by Language Line, including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel, hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911.
Essential Job Functions- Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout interpreting sessions.
- Remain calm during interpreting sessions, especially in emergency situations such as 911 calls.
- Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
- Follow client instructions and protocols to meet client expectations with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP), avoiding interaction with the LEP without client’s permission.
- Understand protocol and terminology for various industries, including medical, insurance, finance, and law.
- Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and work in a diverse environment.
- Handle calls that may be highly emotional or stressful; interpreter may need to remain on a call for extended periods without breaks due to the nature of the call or high call volume.
- Fluency in Manobo and English and skilled in the associated cultural dynamics.
- Ability to assess regional and accent differences and find effective ways of communicating with the LEP.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
- Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective, and handle sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and matters concerning sexual orientation and/or gender expression.
- Education or work experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship required).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and write the requested languages – highly preferred.
- Willingness to adapt to technology enhancements that improve service delivery and meet client demands.
- Dedicated personal device for business purposes.
- Desktop or laptop computers with Windows, macOS, or Chrome OS.
- Tablets (iPadOS or Android) acceptable; smartphones (iOS or Android) also acceptable.
- Restricted brands:
Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware. - High‑speed Internet connection: download ≥5
Mbps, upload ≥3
Mbps, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms. - Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction.
- Operate a keyboard and mouse in a stationary position in front of a computer for the majority of the workday.
- Operate company‑provided software and systems to perform all aspects of the job.
- Have sufficient manual dexterity to type or write.
- Able to lift up to 26lbs.
- May be exposed to moderate noise levels from computer, audio, or telephone.
