Toishanese Interpreter – Video‑Phone Interpreter
Location:
Work at Home, United States.
Pay: $23–$25 per hour, not less than applicable state or local minimum wage.
The interpreter handles video and audio interpreting sessions on demand, translating conversations between Toishanese and English speakers across a range of industries. The role is remote and requires a quiet, secure work environment at home.
Responsibilities- Respond promptly to video and audio interpreting sessions, delivering interpretation professionally and courteously.
- Participate in online training sessions and continuously update skills.
- Execute interpretation through video while expediently typing data on a dedicated device (laptop, desktop, mobile phone, or tablet).
- Render correct concepts and meanings following established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and enunciation.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and camouflaged neutrality throughout sessions.
- Remain calm during sessions that involve sensitive or emergency situations (e.g., 911 calls).
- Follow client instructions and protocols, ensuring client expectations are met without unauthorized interaction with the limited‑English‑speaking person.
- Understand industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law contexts.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability to diverse environments.
- Provide service continuously, even during high call volumes or emotionally charged sessions.
- Fluency in Toishanese and English with strong cultural competency.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills.
- Ability to remain detached and objective during sensitive or emotionally charged conversations.
- Education or experience in teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation preferred.
- Minimum age 18.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship required).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and write both languages (highly preferred).
