Language Line Solutions is a leading global language service provider that offers remote interpreting services for a variety of industries including healthcare, first responders, education, government, and more. This position is a home-based Fuzhou (Chinese dialect) to English video-phone interpreter.

Position Overview

The Fuzhou Video-Telephone Interpreter provides instant, real-time interpretation services via video phone sessions between Fuzhou speakers and English-speaking clients. Applicants must translate verbally and may be exposed to sensitive or emotionally charged contexts. The role is 100% remote and requires a quiet, secure home office.

Essential Job Functions
  • Respond promptly to video and audio interpreting sessions and deliver interpretation in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Participate in scheduled video, audio, and online training sessions.
  • Type session data in real time on a dedicated device (laptop, desktop, tablet, or smartphone).
  • Apply established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions in both languages.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times and remain calm during high-intensity or emergency calls, such as 911 dispatch.
  • Remain punctual and available during scheduled work hours.
  • Follow client instructions and protocol to protect LEP privacy and adhere to legal and ethical standards.
  • Understand industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and legal sectors.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and operate within a diverse environment.
  • Manage emotionally charged or stressful calls that may require extended periods on the line.
Qualifications
  • Fluency in Fuzhou and English, with strong cultural competency.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills for high-accuracy interpretation.
  • Ability to remain neutral, objective, and detached during calls involving sensitive subjects (end-of-life, pregnancy termination, vaccination, sexual orientation, gender expression).
  • Preferred background in language teaching, translation, or interpretation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the U.S. or Canada.
  • Must not require visa sponsorship (H1-B, F-1 OPT, TN, or other non-immigrant status).
  • Capability to adapt to language-learning-system (LLS) technology updates.
  • Strong written proficiency in both languages is highly preferred.
Technical Requirements
  • Dedicated personal device:
    Desktop or laptop with Windows, macOS, or Chrome

    OS; tablets (iPadOS or Android); smartphones (iOS or Android) are acceptable. Brands using Kaspersky or Huawei are prohibited.
  • High-speed Internet connection: download ≥5 Mbps, upload ≥3 Mbps, ping ≤300 ms, jitter ≤30 ms.
  • Quiet, background-noise-free workspace with a reliable webcam and stable power supply.
  • Headset required for prolonged use; comfortable keyboard and mouse for data entry.
Physical Requirements
  • Operate keyboard, mouse, and webcam for the majority of the workday.
  • Use headset continuously; stay seated in front of a computer.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for typing or writing.
  • Ability to lift up to 26 lbs.
  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (computer, audio, telephone).

Pay Transparency and Non-Discrimination
