As a Kimiiru Telephone Interpreter, you will handle on-demand calls, providing real-time translation between Kimiiru and English speakers across multiple industries. You will work remotely from a quiet, secure home office.

• Respond promptly to interpreting sessions and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner.
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation and polite expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions and remain calm if a primary speaker is incoherent or upset, especially in emergency situations such as 911 calls.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
• Follow client instructions in compliance with protocol, ensuring that interactions with the LEP occur only with the client’s permission.
• Understand industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law, and use appropriate cultural sensitivity.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
• Stay on calls for extended periods if required, without breaks, when necessary.

• Fluent in Kimiiru and English with deep understanding of cultural dynamics.
• Ability to assess regional accent variations and communicate effectively with L1 speakers.
• Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills for high accuracy.
• Capacity to remain detached and objective during sensitive discussions (end-of-life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, sexual orientation and gender expression topics).
• Education or work experience in language-related fields (teaching, assessment, translation or interpretation) preferred.
• Adaptable to LLS technology enhancements and client demands.
• At least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write the languages (highly preferred).

• Dedicated personal device for business purposes (desktop/laptop).
• Compatible operating systems:
  Windows, macOS, or Chrome
  
  OS.
• Optional: tablets (iPadOS or Android) and smartphones (iOS or Android).
• Prohibited brands:
  Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware.
• High-speed internet: download at least 5 Mbps, upload at least 3 Mbps, ping no more than 300 ms, jitter no more than 30 ms.
• Quiet, confidential home office environment free of background noise.

Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse and remain seated in front of a computer for most of the workday. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to type. Able to lift up to 26 lbs and tolerate moderate noise levels.

This is an independent contractor position and therefore not eligible for employee benefits. This is a remote position; the interpreter works from a home office.
