Schedule A: $74,454.81 to $. Schedule B: $74,454.81 to $. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.
Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule
A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014, are considered Schedule

The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to two days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high‑speed home internet access. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
Position& Levels
Positions will be filled at one of the following levels based on candidate qualifications and available positions:
Court Interpreter 1 – Journey Level 2 and Court Interpreter 2 – Mastery Level 3.
- Interpret court events in simultaneous, consecutive, and sight modes, whether on site, telephonically, or virtually.
- Translate signage and vicinage documents as requested.
- Assist with contracting freelance interpreters, processing vouchers, statistical reports, TIVD, ADA accommodations, and other tasks requested by supervisor.
- Produce translations of signage and other documents, either in draft or final form, as directed by supervisor.
- Collect and enter data in the automated record‑keeping system.
- Provide training to staff as needed and participate in study and training events to develop and maintain interpreting and translation skills.
- Assist in procurement and assignment of contract interpreters and related paperwork.
- Perform related duties as required.
Eligible applicants are court interpreters approved by the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC). AOC approved interpreters include interpreters who have passed the written and performance oral exams of the National Center for State Courts administered by the AOC or an equivalent test administered by a member state of the National Center for State Courts; or who possess the Federal Court Interpreter Certification by having passed the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Exam administered by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.
- Passed the written and performance oral exams of the National Center for State Courts administered by the AOC or an equivalent test administered by a member state of the National Center for State Courts.
- Possesses the Federal Court Interpreter Certification by having passed the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Exam administered by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts.
- Prior to translating documents, incumbents must pass the translation test administered by the AOC.
- Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; U.S. citizenship is not required.
- Must agree to a thorough background check that includes fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.
- Must establish and maintain a principal residence in New Jersey within one year of hire, unless an exemption is granted by the Employee Residency Review Committee.
