The Chuukese Video-Phone Interpreter renders the meaning of conversations between Chuukese and English speakers. The role supports a wide range of industries including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911. The interpreter processes information quickly and concisely, recognizes cultural differences, and maintains professionalism at all times. The position is remote; the interpreter must work from a secure, quiet home office.
EssentialJob Functions
- Respond promptly to video and audio interpreting sessions and conduct interpretation professionally
- Participate in online, video, and audio training sessions
- Deliver interpretation via video and type data on a dedicated device (laptop, desktop, mobile phone, or tablet)
- Render correct concepts and meanings following established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions
- Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions
- Remain calm during difficult or emergency calls, such as 911 calls
- Maintain punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours
- Follow client instructions and protocol to ensure client expectations are met with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP)
- Understand industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a diverse environment
- Remain on high emotional or stressful calls as required and provide company‑standard service in dynamic environments
- Fluency in Chuukese and English, with cultural competency skills
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking to maintain high accuracy
- Ability to remain neutral and objective during sensitive topics
- Educational or work experience in language-related fields (teaching, assessment, translation, or interpretation) preferred
- Adaptability to technology enhancements that improve service delivery
- Minimum age 18 and legally authorized to work in the United States
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship (H1‑B, F‑1 OPT, TN, etc.)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current employment with a Language Line client or affiliated business disqualifies applicant
- Read and write skills in the requested languages highly preferred
- Pre‑employment background check and drug screen may be required based on location
- Dedicated personal device for business purposes
- Desktop or laptop with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS
- Tablet acceptable (iPadOS or Android)
- Smartphone acceptable (iOS or Android)
- No Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware, or other restricted brands
- High‑speed internet: minimum 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload, ping ≤ 300 ms, jitter ≤ 30 ms
- Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction
- Operate keyboard, mouse, computer, and webcam for the majority of the workday
- Use headset for prolonged periods
- Operate company software and systems proficiently
- Maintain sufficient manual dexterity for typing or writing
- Lift up to 26 lb
- Tolerance for moderate noise levels (computer, audio, telephone)
