Global Language Strategies, a woman-owned small business headquartered in the Washington, DC metropolitan region, is currently seeking professional freelance translators, editors, and transcribers to translate, edit, and/or transcribe legal documents between Czech and English.

• 1) Provide accurate translation and/or editing of documents and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from Czech to/from English.
• 2) Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language.
• 3) Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale.
• 4) Translate and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards.
• 5) Use domain-specific terminology.
• 6) Review and certify the quality of other translators’ work, as needed.
• 7) Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• 8) Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
• 9) Abide by a code of ethics when performing translation and/or editing work.

• 1) A U.S. citizen.
• 2) Is willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance at a Moderate Level.
• 3) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 4) At least 2 to 3 years of experience in translating and/or editing between English and the foreign language.
• 5) If applicable, at least 2 to 3 years of experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription.
• 6) Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the target foreign language.
• 7) Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• 8) Translators and editors must be familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as SDL Trados.

This is a remote position.
