Job Description SummaryNationwide Trial Division is a national team with approximately 40 offices across the United States. Senior Trial Attorneys represent clients under commercial and personal lines insurance policies independently as lead counsel or as part of a larger team. You will manage a mix of cases in state and federal courts, handle all aspects of pleadings, discovery, depositions, legal research, and trials, and maintain a highly productive case volume with a focus on innovative thinking and proactive case management.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate trial advocacy skills independently as lead counsel, ensuring work quality and adherence to Nationwide Trial Division (NTD) standards.
- Work with minimal managerial oversight, managing all core duties and responsibilities.
- Utilize technology and collaborate with support staff to maintain efficient case management.
- Stay updated on changes to law, technology, and procedural requirements affecting litigation strategy.
- Provide factually, legally, and analytically sound opinions on case valuations and communicate promptly with clients and claims.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key associates, claims partners, and industry contacts.
- Develop and mentor junior attorneys and NTD staff, offering guidance and training.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Reporting RelationshipsReports to Managing Trial Attorney.
Typical Skills and ExperiencesEducation: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
License/Certification: Maintains an active state license in the jurisdiction of the position.
Experience: More than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
Knowledge, Abilities, and
Skills:
Significant litigation experience, strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, competence with Microsoft Office, and familiarity with case‑management software. Ability to adapt to changes in law and technology, strong time management, and leadership capabilities.
Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)
Working Conditions: Primarily a normal office environment with occasional remote work, frequent travel, and extended hours. Valid driver’s license required.
ADA: Statements cover principal job functions and may be adapted as needed.
Credit/Background Check: Required as part of the selection process.
