Overview

Position Summary:

This Assistant District Attorney position is a full-time position to be filled in the District Attorney’s office for Langlade County, located in Antigo, WI. This is a State position in the unclassified service.

The Langlade County District Attorney’s Office is a small office with three full time prosecutors (when fully staffed), two support staff, a Victim/Witness Coordinator, and a Diversion Coordinator. Our office has an excellent relationship with our agency partners and with the court. The Assistant District Attorney would appear in front of our sole Judge, and one Court Commissioner.

The Langlade County District Attorney’s Office employs a vertical prosecution process where its attorneys primarily handle referrals from start to finish. Prosecutors in the office do not specialize in topic areas, so prosecutors handle all levels and types of cases. The office encourages collaboration among other government and non-government agencies with opportunities for prosecutors to engage with community partners. The office is a paperless office, which creates flexibility that includes significant opportunities to work from home.

The court is very flexible and remote work a substantial period of time is possible if the attorney wishes.

All prosecutors are provided with their own personal office that they can decorate as they wish, and dual monitors. The office includes secure entrances that require a passcode or key to enter. Parking is free.

In addition to adult criminal matters, the office handles non-criminal traffic and ordinance violations in Langlade County. The Langlade County District Attorney’s Office works closely with the Langlade County Department of Human Services in juvenile delinquency cases, CHIPS/JIPS cases, and other sensitive crime cases. Langlade County utilizes a Child Advocacy Center operated by Children’s Wisconsin which is relied on extensively to conduct forensic interviews to investigate child sexual assault cases.

The Langlade County District Attorney’s Office has created a substantial front-end drug diversion program, which allows for an interested attorney to be very involved with.

The District Attorney is committed to providing a work environment that encourages a healthy work-life balance. The DA is on call to handle all after hours and weekend calls, with ADAs contacted only in rare circumstances. The entire court system is very pro-family and homelife, with support from the DA’s office as well as the Judge and other court personnel.

The Langlade County District Attorney’s Office is located on the first floor of the historic Langlade County Courthouse. Our building is connected to the Public Safety Building, providing easy access to our law enforcement partners.

The starting salary for the position will be $78,686 annually ($37.83 per hour).

Attorneys who are currently employed by the State of Wisconsin are invited to apply and may be able to transfer at their current pay rate. Attorneys who have left the position of Wisconsin elected District Attorney or Assistant District Attorney within the last five years may be able to be hired at a wage rate above the minimum.

Only attorneys who have been admitted to practice law in the State of Wisconsin may be hired.
