An oil and gas firm is looking for an attorney with experience in covering legal project with lands in the Appalachian basin. The candidate will perform title research to verify ownership of oil and gas assets, and analyze documents including deeds, leases, and contracts establishing ownership rights. Those previously hired have often held roles such as landmen, in-house attorneys specializing in legal and compliance, oil and gas finance executives, or regulatory counsel at state agencies.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform title examinations to verify ownership of oil and gas assets.
- Review and interpret key legal documents-including deeds, leases, and contracts-to determine ownership rights.
- Prepare title opinions that identify defects, encumbrances, or other issues that could affect property ownership or usage.
- Conduct due diligence for clients engaged in oil and gas transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
- Advise clients on legal risks, potential liabilities, and strategies to mitigate issues in oil and gas dealings.
- Contract Negotiation and Drafting:
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements such as leases, joint operating agreements, and purchase and sale contracts. Ensure all agreements safeguard client interests and comply with applicable laws.
Position Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree with an active law license and a minimum of one year of experience drafting title opinions for properties located in Ohio, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania
- Proficient in preparing comprehensive, unit-wide division order ownerships, including tract-level details and allocation factors
- Demonstrated strong ethical standards and a steadfast commitment to maintaining client confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- A growth-oriented mindset, with enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development
- Highly organized, with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, analyze complex information, maintain attention to detail, and follow through on assignments
