Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and investigate incoming grievances based on the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct and the Ohio Code of Judicial Conduct.
  • Gather evidence relevant to issues of attorney misconduct, judicial misconduct, medical incapacity, alcohol and substance abuse, and the unauthorized practice of law.
  • Regularly communicate with grievants, judicial officials, attorneys, and the public regarding the evaluation and investigation of grievances.
  • Prepare memoranda and closing letters regarding grievances and investigations.
  • Assist in educating the bench and bar through CLE presentations, training sessions, and other outreach initiatives.
  • Assist the Assistant Disciplinary Counsel in the preparation and presentation of cases before the Board of Professional Conduct or the Board on the Unauthorized Practice of Law.
  • Travel throughout the state as required.
  • Outside practice of law prohibited.
Qualifications
  • An attorney with at least two years’ experience as a practicing lawyer.
  • An attorney with a strong understanding of the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct, the Ohio Code of Judicial Conduct, and the Supreme Court Rules for the Government of the Bar.
  • An attorney with exceptional interpersonal skills and a belief in the power of cooperation.
  • An attorney with a strong commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards.
  • A talented and efficient writer.
  • A highly motivated and positive individual with strong listening, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • An individual with a strong work ethic, who is adaptable and has a willingness to learn.
  • An attorney capable of leading and participating in team projects while also maintaining a high level of independent productivity.
  • An attorney who manages workload and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines, including taking ownership of assigned tasks and projects to ensure timely completion.

  • The starting salary range for the Staff Attorney position is $82,305 - $91,000, depending on experience, plus an excellent benefits package. The Staff Attorney position may be eligible for some remote work after 60 days.
