Civil Litigation Defense Attorney

We are seeking a Civil Litigation Defense Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate is a licensed California attorney interested in developing or deepening experience in high-exposure catastrophic injury and wrongful death matters, as well as sophisticated commercial and residential landlord-tenant litigation, within a collaborative, supportive, and enjoyable work environment.

This position offers the flexibility of remote work on a daily basis while requiring availability for in-person court appearances, depositions, mediations, and trials in Walnut Creek and surrounding jurisdictions, when necessary. Attorneys will work closely with firm partners and, depending on experience, may take primary responsibility for managing their own caseload.

Since the formation of the firm, our attorneys have handled numerous catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases involving premises liability, work site and commercial injuries, motor vehicle negligence, and other high-risk claims. Matters routinely involve multi-million-dollar exposure and require thoughtful strategy, strong advocacy, and meticulous case management.

In addition, the firm maintains a robust practice in commercial and residential landlord-tenant and real estate litigation, including disputes arising under the San Francisco Rent Ordinance, rent control laws, and Ellis Act evictions.

• Manage all phases of civil defense litigation from inception through resolution
• Handle catastrophic injury and wrongful death matters involving significant exposure
• Represent landlords in commercial and residential landlord-tenant disputes, including:
  • Wrongful eviction and wrongful ejectment claims
  • Retaliatory eviction and habitability claims
  • Rent control and Ellis Act matters
• Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, and discovery
• Conduct and defend depositions
• Appear in court for hearings, conferences, mediations, and trials
• Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, and carriers
• Assist with case evaluation, litigation strategy, and trial preparation

Trial experience—or a strong interest in trial work—is highly valued.

• Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar
• Experience in civil litigation defense preferred
• Exposure to catastrophic injury, wrongful death, premises liability, or landlord-tenant litigation is a plus
• Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
• Ability to manage cases independently while collaborating effectively with a team
• Comfortable working remotely while meeting in-person litigation obligations
• Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Walnut Creek, CA
