ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY — FEDERAL EMPLOYMENT LAW
Quinn Patton, LC | Maryland & Washington, D.C.
Performance-Based | Flexible Schedule | Remote-Capable
ABOUT THE FIRMQuinn Patton, LC was founded by a disabled veteran and is co-led by a managing partner with deep experience in state government. With offices in Severna Park, Maryland and Washington, D.C., we practice federal employment law — discrimination, retaliation, whistle blower claims, and civil rights litigation before the EEOC, MSPB, and federal courts. We also serve as outside counsel to employers on compliance, workplace policy, and HR strategy.
We built this firm to bridge the gap between law and business, and our clients stay because we deliver clarity where others offer complexity.
We're not hiring to fill a seat. We're looking for an attorney who wants to build something — someone who sees the long game in developing a practice, not just taking on cases.
This is a performance-based role built for attorneys who want to be compensated for what they produce, not what a committee decides they're worth. You'll work on sophisticated federal employment matters from day one, with the support and infrastructure of an established firm behind you. We're a growing firm with an intentionally lean structure — which means the path to partnership here is shorter and more tangible than at firms where you'd spend a decade waiting in line.
How the structure works, how we invest in your ramp-up, and what the path forward looks like — that's a conversation we'd rather have in person
- Draft motions, briefs, and discovery documents in federal employment cases
- Handle EEOC appeals, MSPB litigation, and federal court filings
- Conduct legal research and case analysis in discrimination, retaliation, accommodation, and whistle blower matters
- Communicate directly with clients, providing counseling and case updates
- Appear at administrative hearings and federal court proceedings
- Develop your own client relationships and book of business over time
- A support team so your phone never goes unanswered and all those pesky administrative tasks are somebody else's job
- Professional malpractice insurance coverage
- Case management software, legal research tools, and technology access
- Direct mentorship from experienced federal employment litigators
- An established brand and client pipeline in a growing practice area
- A collegial, low-ego environment that respects your time — balance of life is a critical part of why we are who we are
The strongest predictor of professional satisfaction isn't salary — it's alignment between who you are and where you work. Here's who does best in a practice like ours:
- You're a licensed attorney in good standing in Maryland, D.C., or a jurisdiction where you can practice alongside us
- You have strong legal research and writing skills — the kind where you take pride in a well-crafted brief
- You're self-directed and internally motivated, not someone who needs to be managed into productivity
- You're drawn to employment law, civil rights, or federal practice — or you're ready to go deep in it
- You value work-life balance as a non-negotiable condition of how you practice, not a perk
- You think like a business owner, not just a practitioner — you see the long game in building client relationships
- You're comfortable with a performance-based structure because you trust your own ability to deliver
You might be coming from government and want to move into private practice. You might be at a firm where the culture doesn't fit. You might be a solo practitioner who wants infrastructure and collaboration without giving up independence. If any of that resonates, we should talk.
HOW WE WORKWe designed this role around a principle that research in organizational psychology has validated for decades: people produce their best work when they have autonomy over how they work, a path to mastery in what they do, and a sense of purpose in why they do it.
Autonomy:
Flexible scheduling, remote work capability, and trust that you'll manage your time like the professional you are. We care about results and responsiveness, not facetime.
