About the FirmA well-established law firm based in Cadillac, Michigan is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing practice focused primarily on family law and criminal defense. The firm has built a strong reputation throughout Northern Michigan for providing high-quality, client‑focused representation in complex matters. The candidate will be supported by the firm’s owner, an experienced associate attorney and support staff. The owner is a seasoned litigator who places a strong emphasis on training, mentorship, and developing young attorneys.
The firm has a successful track record of guiding newly licensed attorneys from the early stages of practice through confident courtroom advocacy. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who wants hands‑on litigation experience in a supportive environment.
This position is primarily remote/hybrid, with many court appearances conducted virtually and no in‑person office requirements. Candidates may live anywhere within 1–2 hours of Cadillac for occasional in‑person hearings, evidentiary proceedings, or trial preparation. Dedicated office space is available if the candidate chooses to come into the office. The firm strongly prefers newer attorneys who are eager to build courtroom skills and develop as litigators.
You will receive structured mentorship, meaningful responsibility early on, and the opportunity to grow your own caseload over time.
- Manage a family law and criminal defense caseload with supervision and mentorship
- Draft pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda
- Represent clients in virtual and occasional in‑person court appearances
- Assist with evidentiary hearings and trial preparation
- Communicate regularly with clients during high‑stress matters
- Participate in case strategy and litigation planning
- Family Law (custody, divorce, parenting time, support matters)
- Criminal Defense
- General Litigation (as needed)
- Newly licensed attorneys:
Typically $70,000–$80,000 starting range - Clear path for compensation growth as skills and responsibilities expand (long‑term earning potential $150,000+)
