Overview

Layde & Parra SC is a dedicated immigration law firm committed to empowering immigrants and supporting them through their unique journeys. We prioritize growth, hospitality, integrity, and innovation as core values in all we do. We strive to provide compassionate, skilled legal services to all our clients.

Our litigation team handles all of the removal cases, including detained cases and asylum representation. This position will work providing direct support to senior attorneys in the litigation team, primarily assisting clients through researching and brief writing, drafting client affidavits, and court appearances.

We are seeking an Immigration Associate Attorney to join our Litigation Team. The primary focus of this position is writing. We are seeking someone who is passionate, highly skilled in persuasive writing and storytelling, and bilingual (English/Spanish). While knowledge of immigration law is a plus, it is not required.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Complex Legal Brief and Motion Writing:
Conduct thorough legal research on complex immigration issues, stay updated on case law, and draft persuasive briefs, motions, and other legal documents to the Immigration Court, Board of Appeals, and 7th Circuit.

Client Affidavits:
Collaborate with clients to gather essential details about their cases, identify relevant evidence needed to develop the theory of the case, draft affidavits that effectively convey their personal stories and meet the elements of the benefits sought, and support clients with empathy and cultural sensitivity.

Case Preparation:
Work closely with supervising attorneys and litigation paralegal to prepare cases for hearings, including compiling evidence, preparing legal arguments, and ensuring all necessary documentation is in order.

Court Appearances:
Represent clients at various immigration court proceedings, including but not limited to bond hearings, master calendar hearings, and merits hearings. Some state court appearances will also be required as they relate to immigration benefits.

Because writing is the core focus of this position, applicants will receive a writing prompt via email after submitting their application. Using only the documents provided, candidates must draft a bond argument—no outside research is necessary. The completed writing prompt must be submitted within 72 hours of receiving the email.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) degree and membership in any state bar depending on what state you currently reside in.
Remote work available for those who do not reside in the state of Wisconsin.

Bilingual in English and Spanish (required), with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.

Strong track record of writing experience in undergraduate and/or law school.

Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills, with attention to detail.

Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to providing compassionate client service.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Prior experience or demonstrated interest in immigration law, whether through life experiences, internships, clinics, or coursework.

A growth mindset and willingness to learn and develop professionally.

A demonstrated commitment to social justice and advocacy for immigrant communities.
