• Perform electronic and manual research of laws, legal opinions, policies, and regulations
• Draft or review legal documents including briefs, memos, rulings, and opinions
• Examine legal filings for sufficiency, jurisdiction, and proper form
• Prepare jury instructions for court proceedings
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by judicial officers

• Completion of law school or legal degree, law clerk apprenticeship, or law clerk program
• Knowledge of Iowa laws and rules, as well as the organization and functions of the Iowa Judicial Branch
• Ability to research and interpret state and federal law, case law, and court rules
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

• Experience in legal research and writing
• Experience in a collaborative professional environment
• Familiarity with Iowa court procedures and legal systems
• High academic excellence
