Staff Counsel – Insurance Defense Litigation

Apollo Managing General Agency is growing their Staff Counsel Office and seeking a Staff Counsel to join their team. In this fully remote role you will handle insurance defense bodily injury lawsuits, property damage defense lawsuits, and more including handling cases from filing of the answer through depositions, mediations and trials.

As Staff Counsel you will represent insured individuals and the Company in the defense of bodily injury lawsuits and property damage lawsuits. You will prepare reporting documentation for claims including initial defense counsel reports, deposition summaries, pre-trial reports and post-trial reports. You will review discovery responses and file appropriate motions to move cases to resolution quickly while preparing thoroughly for depositions, hearings, mediations and trials.

• Represent insured individuals and the Company in the defense of bodily injury lawsuits and property damage lawsuits
• Prepare reporting documentation for claims including Initial Defense Counsel reports, deposition summaries, pre-trial reports and post-trial reports
• Review discovery responses and file appropriate motions to move cases to resolution quickly
• Review Medical Billing and Record Affidavits and request experts and peers as needed
• Prepare thoroughly for and attend depositions, hearings, mediations and trials
• Prepare and present pre and post trial motions effectively
• Assist colleagues in resolving calendar conflicts in a collaborative manner
• Manage projects efficiently fostering coordination and collaboration among legal teams and claims partners
• Keep abreast of and evaluate new laws, regulations, and case law identifying and summarizing relevant issues
• Collaborate with other areas of the legal department providing proactive advice and counsel to business units on the impact of new laws
• Monitor legal representation

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Texas State Bar
• Minimum of 3 plus years of proven insurance defense and/or bodily injury litigation experience including case strategy development, legal research and trial advocacy
• Ability to manage complex disputes and work effectively under pressure
• Experience taking client witness and expert depositions
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365, West Law and document management systems such as Clio or Team Connect
• Strong teamwork skills able to collaborate effectively with attorneys, paralegals and administrative assistants
• Comfortable working in a remote environment and willing to travel throughout the Dallas, Texas area

Preferred Qualifications

• First chair jury trial experience
• Proven experience with insurance defense
• Spanish bilingual speaking ability
