Remote Law; JD Expert - AI Trainer

Mercor is seeking legal experts to support a supervised fine-tuning (SFT) dataset development project in collaboration with a leading AI lab. Professionals will help build and evaluate high-quality legal prompts and responses to improve model performance in reasoning, summarization, and analysis across legal domains. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of frontier AI systems through domain-specific legal expertise.

• Draft and review prompts involving legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, case analysis, and procedural workflows.
• Evaluate and revise AI-generated responses to ensure legal accuracy, clarity, and alignment with professional standards.
• Develop variants of prompts based on style, instruction-following, and user personas (e.g., lawyer vs. layperson).
• Identify examples likely to expose failures in model reasoning or content handling.
• Collaborate asynchronously with Mercor’s research coordination team as needed.

• J.D. or equivalent legal degree from a top institution.
• 2+ years of experience practicing law or in a legal academic/research setting.
• Expertise in one or more areas such as constitutional law, contracts, criminal procedure, or administrative law.
• Exceptional analytical writing skills and familiarity with legal argument structure.
• Experience in legal education or content development is a plus.

• Remote and asynchronous – set your own hours.
• Expected commitment: 10–20 hours per week.
• Project duration: ~4+ months, with possibility for extension.
• Short‑form and long‑form legal content creation and review.

• $80–100 per hour for U.S.
  
  -based applicants; adjusted for other geographies.
• Paid weekly via Stripe Connect; you’ll be classified as an independent contractor.
