Hybrid Role: This role is hybrid, with an established schedule of in-person work required at an assigned work location. Any remote work is expected to be performed from an employee’s primary residence, unless allowed (or prohibited) through the Company’s remote work guidelines.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Provides legal services in matters with some complexity and sensitivity regarding legal matters and recommendations. Applies legal knowledge analysis and solutions to meet business unit and company objectives. Leads others in plans and execution and can lead teams or coordinate with other areas to provide legal services. Represents the interests of the Company formal or informal legal proceedings including but not limited to federal, state or local judicial, or alternative dispute resolution processes.

Key Accountabilities
  • Leads legal projects and oversees the effectiveness and is resolved in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Conducts research on legal principles and precedents, consult with outside counsel, create and execute legal documents, gather relevant information using multiple sources and methods, provides guidance to develop solutions to business unit problems.
  • Negotiates, creates and approves of legal contracts, letters of agreement, policies and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters
  • Analyzes legal data and interprets proposed and existing laws, statutes, and regulations to ensure accurate advice is given to the organization on appropriate legal action to be taken.
  • Advises on legal concerns involving the organization’s government and regulatory compliance.
  • Leads litigation on the company’s behalf or coordinates litigation and other legal matters handled by outside counsel.
  • Provides legal guidance and advice on general corporate matters, including corporate organization, securities compliance, drafting transactional documents, license agreements, employment law, immigration law, data privacy, risk management asset-backed financing, and contract management.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Graduate of accredited law school and admitted to the bar with 7 years of legal experience as a licensed attorney practicing law in any of the following areas: commercial transactions, federal and state regulatory law (energy), environmental, litigation, corporate finance and/or governance, and labor and employment law

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working on transactional legal matters
  • Experience with procurement contracts and complex transactions (mergers/acquisitions or joint ventures), as well as other types of business transactions (e.g., real estate or construction)
  • Experience working with renewable energy transactions.
